    Born at Bedwas, Mon, in 1920, he joined the National Fire Service at Cardiff, after serving with the Royal Navy as an Executive Petty Officer. At termination of the N.F.S. he became a member of Cardiff City Fire Service and attained sub-officer rank in 1951. Transfered to Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire Joint Fire Brigade in Novemeber, 1954.
